Years after Bb. Pilipinas Venus Raj captured our hearts with her inspiring Miss Universe 3^rd Runner Up finish, we still continue to adore her in varied and “major major” ways. 1) What is the best thing about being the spokesperson for Dermclinic?

2) How do you take care of your skin on a daily basis? What habits do you make sure you do for your skin?

I adhere with strict discipline to the basics of healthy living: eat healthy food, hydrate often and always have a positive outlook in life. Whatever we ingest and whatever we think or feel will eventually manifest outward. It is our skin that normally takes the beating.

3) What are some Dermclinic procedures do you undergo on a regular basis to make sure that your skin remains healthy and glowing?

I regularly visit Dermclinic for a facial and some hair removal procedure. I make sure that I take care of my entire body and not just the face so I am in constant consultation with the experts in Dermclinic as to what procedures I need to undergo in order to achieve total face and body skin care.

4) How do you define a beautiful and healthy skin? Does one’s skin tone need to be fair in order to be considered beautiful?

A healthy and beautiful skin must be free from disorders. The skin color does not define total beauty. It may enhance but it is never the ultimate measure of beauty. Fact is, to be confident in one’s natural skin tone is half the battle won in achieving confidence and a beautiful aura.

5) Apart from regular skin care routine and visits to the dermatologist, what other lifestyle activities do you do in order to help achieve a beautiful complexion?

A regular fitness regimen and diet helps a lot. I do brisk walking and short but intense runs, which help me, feel light and active. Also, I hydrate often and use moisturizer as much as possible.

6) What things do you avoid to prevent stress on your skin?

I avoid drinking too much alcohol because they can dehydrate and make skin look dry. I don’t smoke as it promotes wrinkles especially in the facial area, and I avoid staying out late especially if I have to wake up early. Lack of sleep cause puffiness in the eye area and a lethargic feeling.

7) What’s your definition of total beauty?

Real beauty is a result of how we take care of ourselves inside and out. We need to cultivate that positive spirit and grateful heart which and naturally radiates. The other half is being kind to our unique, physical body. We should never take our beauty routine and hygiene habits for granted and always make it part of our lifestyle. Once we achieve total beauty, it inspires others to be the same.

Based on how Venus has been actively pursuing her career with so much passion and bravado nowadays, we can truly say that she is an inspiration to anyone who desire to become the best version of themselves.

I started off with a good skincare regimen pretty late in my life. That's when I had severe acne that my mom got so bothered she brought me to Dermclinic to have it checked. Venus Raj started the four-year streak of Pinay bets winning at the most prestigious international pageants in 2010 when she ended up as Miss Universe 4^thrunner-up. Her victory was made more significant by the fact that the last time the Philippines reached the Top 5 was more than a decade prior.

These days, ask Venus about her views on beauty and you’d see her in a different light.

“Lagi na lang beauty is about physical appearance dahil na din sa yan ang na-pro-promote sa media pero ang totoo, hindi lang yan tungkol sa kulay mo, sa kutis mo, sa tangkad mo, sa liit ng bewang mo. Walang peg ang beauty. As long as may maganda kang kalooban and you do what’s right, you become beautiful in the eyes of people,” she said in an exclusive interview.

 Venus recalled a time when she wanted to become fair-skinned.    

 “But then I became a Born Again Christian and I realized that seeing maputi as a measure of beauty is the world’s standard. Now I look at my brown skin and I’m thankful for it. Eto ang bigay sa akin, so why would I want something else?”

 It doesn’t mean, though, that one should not do anything and everything to enhance or preserve ones’ looks. Beyond vanity, Venus believes taking care of oneself is divine mandate.

“God wants us to be healthy, both inside and out. We also reflect His work in our lives by the way we look. Wag mong pabayaan ang mga gifts Niya sa yo,” was her simple explanation.

 In renewing as endorser of the 42-year-old Dermclinic, the beauty queen is happy that its anniversary theme is “Be in the Pink,” with emphasis on beauty a by-product of being healthy.  “There will always be someone greater or ‘lesser,’ if that’s the word to use. It really doesn’t matter. Just be yourself---the way you were meant to be---and the world will see your beauty. Have peace in your heart, your life. Be happy, stay happy.”

The music hall in SM Mall of Asia was transformed into a place for an all-day of inspiring and informative talks, various booths, exciting freebies and raffle draws. 

The event was hosted by Belle de Jour with this year’s theme “Make it Happen,” to inspire Filipinas to act and chase their dreams now. The event was also an avenue to launch their flagship brand of planners for 2014. 

Dermclinic, one of Belle de Jour’s lifestyle brand partners, took part at the event to provide existing and new clients real beauty by professional dermatologists. The team which led by Dermclinic's sales and marketing manager, Jillen Oasan pointed out what’s in store to those who’ll be visiting the booth. “We have our core products – the NuDerm Supreme and the NuDerm Classic lines which are much known to our clients; we are giving a 40% discount to (Dermclinic) clients and to the fans of Belle de Jour,” Oasan said during the fair.

Aside from a huge discount offered on the NuDerm products, visitors enjoyed a free skin analysis at the Dermclinic booth. Visitors of the booth were enlightened about the different skin conditions and issues, and learned about the basics of skin care.

In line with Belle de Jour’s theme of empowering and inspiring women, they staged pure entertainment to foster new friendships, and made it possible to invite women of this generation who were all successful in their respective fields to give a talk and advice.
Dermclinic’s beauty ambassador and 2010 Ms. Universe 4^th runner-up, Venus Raj was invited to participate in one of the talks; she shared to women her sweet journey towards the crown. 

She talked about the hindrances she encountered and recalled that some people don’t appreciate her. “I have dark skin so I wasn’t really appreciated when I joined (beauty contests). But after joining several pageants, I came to realize that I could also compete regardless of skin color.” Despite the unappreciative people that surrounded her before, she gave credit to her family for being her number one fan.

“They (family) encouraged me to join contests … they were always there to support me even up to now.”
